# Solana Blockchain

Solana is an open source project implementing a new, high-performance, permissionless blockchain.

Solana is one of the fastest-growing decentralized public blockchain platforms in the world, known for its fast transactions and powerful ecosystem for use by developers. Founded in 2017 by Anatoly Yakovenko from Solana Labs, the Solana blockchain adopts a new method of verifying transactions. Using a method known as Proof of History (PoH), the Solana blockchain can handle thousands of transactions per second.\

# General

# What is Solscan?

Solscan is a block explorer for the Solana blockchain. A block explorer is a search tool or an online blockchain browser for viewing blockchain and checking transactions. It provides information like the contents of an individual block, transaction history, and balance of wallet addresses on Solana blockchain.

Solscan is not funded, opereated, or managed by the Solana Foundation but instead exists as an independent entity. Our commitment lies in enhancing blockchain transparency by meticulously indexing and making all Solana transactions searchable in the most transparent and accessible manner possible.

Solscan is not a wallet service provider. Solscan does not store your private keys, nor do we have access or control over your wallet, funds, or any transactions on the Solana network. As a result, we cannot assist in reversing transactions or recovering lost funds.

In addition to our explorer, we offer a suite of load-balanced, robust API services. These services can be leveraged to build decentralized applications or serve as data feeds for Solana blockchain information.

# FAQs

Everything you need to know about Solscan and fundamental information about Solana blockchain.

#### **1. Are Solscan's updates real-time?**

Yes! Solscan has its own RPC with all the historical ledger data, and it supports users by enabling instant access to the transaction they made.

#### **2.** Why does it appear to be a "failed transaction" when I try to add this token into my SPL wallet?

You need to have SOL in your wallet to mint any Address in SOL wallet to do this.

#### 3. How do we list our tokens on Solscan?

You can place request a request on Solana github, and your token information will be automatically updated on Solscan.io: <http://github.com/solana-labs/token-list>

#### 4. How many wallets can we track per account?

You can keep up to 10 wallets under your radar by adding accounts to your Watchlist.

#### 5. How can we keep track of different accounts on SolScan?

You can track desired accounts on Solscan by adding them to your Wallet.

#### 6. Should I use personal labels?

You should use the Personal Labels function as it will help you create simple and memorable names for all of your interested accounts because blockchain accounts can be confusing on occasion.

#### **7. How do I see top holders of a token on Solscan?**

Simply click on the token and you will see its top 25 holders in the "Transactions" section.

#### **8. How can I see the top holders of an unnamed token on Solscan?**

"You can check the top holders of ANY token. Just click on them and the results will be shown in the "Transactions" section. "

#### **9.** How can I check the category of different tokens on Solana through Solscan?

You just click on the token to check its category. We have just added the Tags function to feature Solana-based projects to help users easily identify which field(s) the tokens belong to.

#### 10. Do you have a feature that can be used to revoke an address?

Currently, we do not have plans to add the function to call the functions on-chain. Adding this function is a possibility that is being considered.

#### **11. How do I make Solscan work with an Anchor IDL account to parse an unknown instruction better?**

You can upload your IDL file to Solana first, then you can contact us via twitter/telegram to provide you with your program address. Currently we maintain a whitelist of Anchor programs to ensure system performance.

#### **12. Can you track all sales and purchases from using DEX on Solscan?**

Yes, for now you can check this information using program addresses or market addresses.

#### **13. How can I check the destination of my tokens?**

You can check your wallet address on Solscan to learn the destination of your tokens.

#### **14. Why can't I see my transaction on Solscan?**

If there are no transactions on Solscan, perhaps the transfer didn't occur.

#### **15. I am having a problem with my Sollet. Can Solscan help me with it?**

If you have problems with Sollet - access a channel called #sollet-help in Serum Discord. I believe you will find useful resources there - or people who will be able to assist you.

#### 16. What is SPL Transfer?

SPL Transfer refers to the action of trans non-native tokens within the Solana ecosystem.

#### **17. What is Token Account?**

Token Account is the address that holds your tokens.

#### 18. What is Stake Account?

A Stake Account indicates the number of staked accounts that users are staking for.

#### **19. How do I export a CSV report for Tx history?**

Go to your account address, click on SPL transfer/ SOL transfer, use the button at the top right of the table.

#### **20. I have transferred a token to/from an exchange, and that transaction displayed correctly on Solscan, but I do not see my exchange balance reflected in the deposits/withdrawals. What should I do?**

Solscan displays and interprets what has actually happened on-chain, and it does not have the ability to change or reverse any transactions. You should get in contact with the exchange where you expected to see your account information.

# Labeling

Blockchain makes it possible for anyone to access and share data, but that accessibility can make it challenging for users to understand the context around a given transaction. As for Solscan, part of our job in making Solscan the front page of Solana is to ensure that users can intuitively gain overview information ***at a glance***. By deploying our latest feature, **Quantitative** **Address Labeling**, we believe that our users can have a better experience scanning addresses using our explorer.

So what is "**Quantitative** **Address Labeling**”? Quantitative Address labeling is how Solscan tags and identifies wallet addresses, based on different parameters such as:

* The number of NFT transactions that an account makes,&#x20;
* The number of NFTs that it mints
* Its NFT hold duration,&#x20;
* Swap volume,
* The number of swap transactions,&#x20;
* and many, many more.&#x20;

From the large on-chain database, the Solscan team has categorized user’s wallets into multiple groups, each representing a different type of user according to their on-chain behaviors and activities.

Example of an account with its NFT labels:

<figure><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/FOvMALd7whcxvYtFBgJ32HBc1fiClq8z4S7NYLpMEkzMIDAdMJZ7ITaf7EJwoleFIgJ1urDKWoeWSQe3d1fsZ4_RYDxUrCKpX0cnL8lu8dbTsVGUSdlecBml-FaozCA9LfuYd6j02cY0r9cELFG0dGPwEXxhJUeb_8eMeRtIXT8_lEs0kd7PDya99REZjg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/AfjiwZd3GcRyIQZ-vDXZOGCj059A_WEUou-CsZgm9E1a6QDJg_l3ivry3xIAuGkGCeDUAAe_SwHK_T86_jjK_fIYXo96EN7sZlBfuh_bf9V6XsWwud0_U7AhlCTMO8IM0N-DQnPl-mhY4ifnRo8-mnbsyxDU-eOrm-7oZZ8_wwB5wvmOg11E677i8IHWVw" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In the case of addresses with multiple categories for labeling, Solscan displays address labels in a priority-based order:&#x20;

* 1st: Domain Name Service,&#x20;
* 2nd: Project Name,&#x20;
* 3rd: Exchange Name,&#x20;
* 4th: Exploiter/Hacker tag,&#x20;
* and 5th: Solscan's Quantitative Labeling.

To explain what this Quantitative Labeling is, here is the list of all labels so far and their respective descriptions:

<figure><img src="/files/ZtM1oz965rGphhjkwaRV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. Signature: Transaction ID/hash
2. Block: Slot number of the block that contains the transaction.
3. Timestamp: Read more about the Solana Proof of History protocol here: <https://docs.solana.com/cluster/synchronization>
4. Result:&#x20;

   Success/Failure: The result of transaction&#x20;

   Finalized (Max confirmations): The statement that the transaction has already been validated by validator nodes.

8. [tx MAP](/transaction-details/transaction-details/tx-map): transaction flow visualizer.
9. Your Notes: You can add notes/reminders/labels for this transaction.

**Create Associated Account:**

Making transactions on Solana means that you have to create a Token Account for each type of token that you want to make a transaction on. In case that you do not establish a token account to store the said token, the protocol you use automatically creates a token (associated) account for you.

![](/files/lCihdlrjfjw9FdXRp2PD)

1. Authority: Owner Wallet Address
2. Associated Account: Token Account Created by the Program.
3. Token Address: Token Address used in the transaction.

## **Instruction Details**

Solana transactions are composed of instructions. Each instruction contains the program ID it invokes, program instruction, and a list of accounts that the transaction needs to write or read. Instruction Details show information of the interaction among instructions, programs and accounts under the hood. For general users, we recommend hiding these details for better experience.

For example:

The below instruction includes:

* Interaction with Magic Eden v2 program
* Instruction Data: hex or encoded data.
* Input Accounts: all accounts the transaction writes or reads through this instruction
* Inner instructions: another layer of instructions where interactions with system programs occur.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/R7CA8Ftr5YbrdVgPKnZp" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Program log**

A log of the execution of programs, showing all events that occur through instructions.

For general users, we would recommend hiding the details of this section for simplier experience.

# Update Token Details

Solscan has switched to using Metaplex Metadata as the newest token standard across the network.&#x20;

When you create a token, you want to make sure that the token shows up in user's wallets with a name, ticker, and image. Solana uses the [Token Metadata Program from Metaplex](https://docs.metaplex.com/token-metadata/specification#token-standards) to achieve this.

The metadata account address is derived from the mint account. The metadata field requires a JSON file to be populated with at least the following:

```
{
  "name": "Coin name",
  "symbol": "Symbol",
  "image": "Image link"
}
```

To attach the metadata to the mint account, you can use `CreateMetadataV2`.

**Some background for users and developers:**

The concept of tokens on Solana is not binary anymore as there are different types of tokens on Solana than simply “fungible” and “non-fungible” tokens.

The Metaplex’s token standard field can have the following values:&#x20;

* NonFungible: A non-fungible token with a Master Edition.&#x20;
* FungibleAsset: A token with metadata that can also have attributes, sometimes called Semi-Fungible.&#x20;
* Fungible: A token with simple metadata.&#x20;
* NonFungibleEdition: A non-fungible token with an Edition account (printed from a Master edition).

This section serves two goals: Assist developers with the process of creating new Token using Metaplex Token Standard: Also help them update “legacy tokens” metadata with the Metaplex standard.

The JSON schema for the tokens according to the Metaplex Fungible Token Metadata Standard includes the following:

* More details from[ Metaplex docs](https://docs.metaplex.com/programs/token-metadata/changelog/v1.1)

# API Transaction Enhanced - Filtering by Program Instruction

Filter an account's transaction history by specific on-chain instruction using a PROGRAM\_ADDRESS + DISCRIMINATOR pair, so you retrieve only the interactions that matter.

## Filtering by Program Instruction — Developer Reference

**Solscan Pro API** · `GET /v2.0/account/transactions/enhanced`

Full endpoint: [`https://pro-api.solscan.io/v2.0/account/transactions/enhanced`](https://pro-api.solscan.io/v2.0/account/transactions/enhanced)

***

### Overview

`/account/transactions/enhanced` is the upgraded version of `/account/transactions`. It returns raw Solana transaction objects (same structure as `getTransaction` RPC) with full server-side filtering by time, slot, signature range, signer, token, program, and instruction discriminator.

The `instruction` parameter is the focus of this document — it filters transactions by the **leading bytes of instruction data**, which uniquely identifies which instruction was called inside a program.

***

***

### The `instruction[]` Parameter

#### What it does

Filters transactions where at least one instruction matches both a specific **program** and a specific **discriminator**. Works server-side — only matching transactions are returned.

Multiple values use **OR** logic: a transaction matching any of the provided values is included.

#### Format

Every value passed to `instruction[]` follows a single unified format:

`instruction[] = PROGRAM_ADDRESS + DISCRIMINATOR`

The `PROGRAM_ADDRESS` is the base58 program address (44 characters). The `DISCRIMINATOR` identifies which specific instruction within that program — its format depends on how the program was built (see Three Cases below).

`instruction[]=PROGRAM_ADDRESSDISCRIMINATOR`

* Type: `array`
* Required: No
* Max values: 5
* No `program[]` prerequisite — the program address is embedded in the value itself

#### Example from Solscan API

```markdown
<https://pro-api.solscan.io/v2.0/account/transactions/enhanced>
  ?address=DCA265Vj8a9CEuX1eb1LWRnDT7uK6q1xMipnNyatn23M
  &instruction[]=DCA265Vj8a9CEuX1eb1LWRnDT7uK6q1xMipnNyatn23Mf223c68952e1f2b6
```

Breaking this down:

```markdown
Program address : DCA265Vj8a9CEuX1eb1LWRnDT7uK6q1xMipnNyatn23M   (Jupiter DCA)
Discriminator   : f223c68952e1f2b6                                  (8-byte Anchor)
Instruction name: deposit  → sha256("global:deposit")[0..8]
Combined value  : DCA265Vj8a9CEuX1eb1LWRnDT7uK6q1xMipnNyatn23Mf223c68952e1f2b6
```

bash

```markdown
curl --request GET \\
  --url '<https://pro-api.solscan.io/v2.0/account/transactions/enhanced>
    ?address=DCA265Vj8a9CEuX1eb1LWRnDT7uK6q1xMipnNyatn23M
    &instruction[]=DCA265Vj8a9CEuX1eb1LWRnDT7uK6q1xMipnNyatn23Mf223c68952e1f2b6
    &limit=10
    &encoding=jsonParsed' \\
  --header 'token: YOUR_API_KEY'
```

#### Web UI vs API mapping

The Solscan web UI shows a shorter form in the URL (discriminator only):

[`https://solscan.io/account/jupoNjAxXgZ4rjzxzPMP4oxduvQsQtZzyknqvzYNrNu ?instruction=5f81edf00831df84`](#jupiter-limit-order-juponjaxxgz4rjzxzpmp4oxduvqsqtzzyknqvzynrnu)

The API requires the full combined form (program address + discriminator):

`instruction[]=jupoNjAxXgZ4rjzxzPMP4oxduvQsQtZzyknqvzYNrNu5f81edf00831df84`

### How to Find the Right Hex Value

#### Hex Dictionary

Check Solscan IDL Dictionary to find the hex and program address you want to filter

[Tools](https://solscan.io/tools#idl-dictionary)

#### Case 1 — Anchor Programs (8-byte discriminator)

Anchor programs compute their instruction discriminator using SHA-256:

```
discriminator = sha256("global:" + instruction_name_from_IDL)[0..8]
```

Result: always 8 bytes = 16 hex characters.

> **Critical:** The instruction name must match the IDL exactly — including casing. Jupiter V6 uses camelCase (`sharedAccountsRoute`). Jupiter Limit Order uses snake\_case (`cancel_order`). One wrong character produces a completely different hash with no error.

#### How to compute

**JavaScript / TypeScript:**

```tsx
import { createHash } from 'crypto';
function anchorDiscriminator(instructionName: string): string {
  return createHash('sha256')
    .update(`global:${instructionName}`)
    .digest()
    .slice(0, 8)
    .toString('hex');
}
// Jupiter Limit Order — snake_case
anchorDiscriminator('cancel_order')           // "5f81edf00831df84"
anchorDiscriminator('initialize_order')       // "856e4aaf709ff59f"
anchorDiscriminator('fill_order')             // "e87a7319c78f88a2"
// Jupiter V6 — camelCase
anchorDiscriminator('route')                  // "e517cb977ae3ad2a"
anchorDiscriminator('sharedAccountsRoute')    // "5703feb8e7573909"
// PumpFun — single word
anchorDiscriminator('buy')                    // "66063d1201daebea"
anchorDiscriminator('sell')                   // "33e685a4017f83ad"
anchorDiscriminator('create')                 // "181ec828051c0777"
```

**Python:**

```python
import hashlib
def anchor_discriminator(instruction_name: str) -> str:
    h = hashlib.sha256(f"global:{instruction_name}".encode()).digest()
    return h[:8].hex()
```

#### How to find instruction names from IDL

**Option A — Anchor CLI:**

```bash
anchor idl fetch PROGRAM_ID --provider.cluster mainnet-beta
# Look for instructions[].name in the output
```

**Option B — Solscan Explorer:**

Open `solscan.io/account/PROGRAM_ID` → "Anchor Program" tab → instruction names listed come directly from the on-chain IDL.

**Option C — Program's GitHub:**

Look for `target/idl/<program_name>.json` → `instructions[].name`.

***

#### Case 2 — Native Programs (1-byte enum discriminator)

Native Rust programs do not use Anchor. They route instructions using a simpler scheme — typically a single `u8` byte at position `data[0]`. You cannot compute these with `sha256`.

The hex value must be looked up from the program's source code or from a known on-chain transaction.

#### How to find the hex value from a transaction

**Step 1 — Find a known transaction on Solscan:**

Open a transaction that called the instruction you want. In the instruction detail, find the `data` field (base58-encoded).

**Step 2 — Decode to bytes:**

```tsx
import bs58 from 'bs58';
// 'data' field from instruction in Solscan transaction detail
const dataBase58 = "3Bxs3zzLZLuLQEYX"; // example
const bytes = bs58.decode(dataBase58);
// For Anchor programs: first 8 bytes
const anchorPrefix = Buffer.from(bytes.slice(0, 8)).toString('hex');
// For native programs: first 1 byte
const nativePrefix = Buffer.from(bytes.slice(0, 1)).toString('hex');
console.log('8-byte prefix:', anchorPrefix);
console.log('1-byte prefix:', nativePrefix);
```

**Step 3 — Verify** across multiple transactions of the same type to confirm the prefix is consistent.

#### Summary: Three Cases at a Glance

| Case  | Program type                     | `instruction[]` format                     | Discriminator length | Example                             |
| ----- | -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | -------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| **1** | Anchor (has IDL)                 | `programAddress` + 8-byte SHA256 hex       | 16 hex chars         | `JUP6Lk...e517cb977ae3ad2a`         |
| **2** | Shank (native Rust + IDL)        | `programAddress` + 1-byte enum index hex   | 2 hex chars          | `metaqb...31`                       |
| **3** | Native, no IDL (Solscan-decoded) | `programAddress` + instruction name string | Variable             | `Tokenk...initializeImmutableOwner` |

### Choosing the Right Encoding

The `encoding` parameter controls the format of transaction data in the response.

| Value                  | `instruction.data` format                          | Use when                       |
| ---------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ |
| `jsonParsed` (default) | Human-readable parsed object (where IDL available) | Exploring data, debugging |
| `json`                 | Base58 string                                      | Standard RPC-compatible format |
| `base64`               | Base64 string                                      | Compact binary transfer        |
| `base58`               | Base58 string                                      | Legacy compatibility           |

For instruction filtering and data analysis, `jsonParsed` gives the most context. For raw byte inspection (to find discriminators manually), `json` or `base64` and then decoding client-side.

#### Key Features

* **Balance & Portfolio Tracking:** Access real-time SOL and SPL token balances.
* **DeFi Intelligence:** Track swaps, liquidity movements, and yield farming activities.
* **Decoded Transactions:** View transaction actions (swaps, transfers, mints) in a human-readable format.
* **Global Market Data:** Retrieve token prices, trending lists, and holder distributions.
